The University Greening Toolbox project will be featured in the forthcoming Springer publication “Sustainable Development Education – Creative Strategies for Transformative Learning and Sustainable Development Teaching” (to be published in the forthcoming months).

The chapter “Strengthening HEIs’ Role in the Green Transition through Participatory Sustainability Assessment Tools – Presenting Two Case Studies from Austria” by Verena Régent(WPZ Research), Beate Pawle (University of Applied Sciences Vorarlberg), Verena Liszt-Rohlf  (University of Applied Sciences Burgenland), and Irem Aksoy (University of Applied Sciences Vorarlberg), explores how the University Greening Toolbox can support higher education institutions in advancing their sustainability efforts through different practical applications. It presents two case studies demonstrating the flexibility of the Toolbox in addressing diverse institutional needs.

In the first example, the Toolbox was used collaboratively during a workshop to support the revision of a university’s sustainability strategy, with participants focusing on the research dimension of the self-assessment. In the second example, colleagues from different university departments completed the full self-assessment independently before comparing their results across all dimensions. This process provided a structured basis for preparing a materiality analysis.

The publication highlights the adaptability of the University Greening Toolbox and its potential to support strategic sustainability planning in higher education institutions.
