GET-AHED Conference 2025: Successfully Concluded in Cork, Ireland

We are delighted to share that the GET-AHED Conference was successfully held on 20–21 October 2025 at Munster Technological University in Cork, Ireland. The two-day event brought together leading experts, researchers, and practitioners from across Europe to promote environmental sustainability in the higher education sector. The conference opened with a warm welcome from Munster Technological University President Maggie Cusack, which we were deeply honoured to receive.

A Strong Line-up of Keynote Speakers

The conference featured six distinguished keynote speakers who provided comprehensive insights into HEI sustainability. Mark O’Hara (EAIR & Advance HE) explored sustainability and inclusiveness in quality education development, while Henriette Stoeber (European University Association) presented findings from a recent survey among 400 European HEIs on their greening measures and strategies.  Gesche Kindermann (University of Galway) shared impressive insights on sustainability implementation at the University of Galway, and  Jouni Kekäle (University of Eastern Finland) examined HEIs‘ critical roles in climate change mitigation.  Leyla Azizi (Technical University Dresden) presented on participatory approaches to sustainability assessment at the example of the German UNISIMS project, and  Verena Liszt-Rohlf (University of Applied Sciences Burgenland) discussed effectuation-oriented entrepreneurship education and showcased how UAS Burgenland has already involved the University Greening Toolbox in its strategy processes.

Diverse Research and Practice

Three thematic paper sessions addressed critical topics: Sustainability Education & Behavioral Change explored digital tools and creative engagement strategies; Strategic Implementation & Assessment examined frameworks for embedding SDGs and benchmarking practices; and Sustainability Communication & Applied Practice showcased innovations in food sustainability, business education, and intercultural messaging.
