The abstract entitled “Analysis and Development of Sustainability Assessment Tools in Higher Education – Case study: the ‘GET-AHED’ Project” (“Análise e Desenvolvimento de Ferramentas de Avaliação da Sustentabilidade no Ensino Superior – Caso de estudo: o Projeto ‘GET-AHED’ ”) will be presented at the 15th FORGES Conference in Timor-Leste under the theme ‘Promoting Scientific Research in Portuguese Language in the face of global challenges’. This work aims: (i) to identify and to analyse sustainability assessment tools in higher education; and (ii) to create a self-assessment tool that fills the gaps identified in existing tools. The work is based on extensive online research using terms such as ‘Sustainability self-assessment tools in higher education’ and ‘Sustainability Assessment Tools in Higher Education’, where 87 tools were identified and analysed worldwide, substantially increasing knowledge about how HEIs analyse sustainability by comparing indicators, criteria and sustainability self-assessment tools. Content analysis of these tools shows that they mainly focus on technological and operational activities. On the other hand, the focus is on descriptive case studies of specific initiatives. Seeking to address these gaps, the ‘GET-AHED’ Project, funded with the support of the European Commission under the Erasmus+ programme, aims to support HEIs in the green transition. The reviewers highlighted the “contributions to the debate on the role of higher education in promoting sustainability in Portuguese-speaking countries and regions”.
